Seminarista (to the tune of a Cebuano song “Paradista)

Taas ug panglantaw

sa mata sa katilingban

Dili guapo, dili ambungan

Apan bawi man kay buotan

Singot ug kusog

Maoy puhonan niining kinabuhi

Bugtong bahandi kay gusto mang magpari.

Seminarista, ang tawag nila kanamo

Nga nag-eskwela sa San Jose de la Montana

Mga imbitasyon dili gayud kana namo palabyon

Human ug kaon, kami kaon gihapon.

Refrain: Apan ayaw kumpiyansa sa mga seminarista

Kamong mga batan-on nga dalaga

Hilabi na kadtong mga tisay ug guapa

Ayaw’g kumpiyansa, ayaw usab tintala

Hala inday, ondo, manong, manang, mangadye na kita

Aron kaming seminarista, unta maka-agwanta

Dili baya sayon ang kinabuhi sa mga parionon

Daghang tentasyon, sa bugnawng kagabhion.

(Repeat Chorus except last line)

Ayaw’g kumpiyansa, hinuon higugmaa/ ayaw og sugta

kon kini  manguyab na.

Why God doesn’t answer some of our prayers?

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No. I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.You must grow on your own,

but I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all

things.
I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.God said…Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.
If you love God, send this to your friends .
THIS DAY IS YOURS. DON’T THROW IT AWAY!

May God Bless You!

How Big is Your GOD?

A very good point for reflection on how is our relationship with God, by Fr Paul Coutinho, S.J.

Luke 19:11-28 [gospel today]

Gospel Luke 19:11-28 ©
While the people were listening, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they imagined that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there. Accordingly he said, ‘A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and afterwards return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds. “Do business with these” he told them “until I get back.” But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to follow him with this message, “We do not want this man to be our king.”
Now on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for those servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made. The first came in and said, “Sir, your one pound has brought in ten.” “Well done, my good servant!” he replied “Since you have proved yourself faithful in a very small thing, you shall have the government of ten cities..” Then came the second and said, “Sir, your one pound has made five.” To this one also he said, “And you shall be in charge of five cities.” Next came the other and said, “Sir, here is your pound. I put it away safely in a piece of linen because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you pick up what you have not put down and reap what you have not sown.” “You wicked servant!” he said “Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew I was an exacting man, picking up what I have not put down and reaping what I have not sown? Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out with interest.” And he said to those standing by, “Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has ten pounds.” And they said to him, “But, sir, he has ten pounds . . .” “I tell you, to everyone who has will be given more; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
“But as for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in my presence.”’
When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

REFLECTION:  Jesus in our gospel today, is on his way to Jerusalem. The people who have been following him were thinking that the coming of the Kingdom of God would happen there.

But Jesus corrects their assumption. He is sort of saying, “You should not be so preoccupied with the coming of the Kingdom, rather you should be preparing yourselves, examining your life, if you are really worthy and ready when the Kingdom of God comes.

Each one of us has been given a particular gift or talent that we are expected to use, develop, nurture, invest, and share for the growth of kingdom. In the end God will ask us an account of this.

St Elizabeth of Hungary whose memorial we celebrate today, has invested all her time, talents and treasures to please God by helping the poor and the sick in her time.

Today, we can see around us all kinds of poverty and social illness. Our gospel  today challenges us to invest our gifts and to share our resources to others, but it’s not only as simple that, we have to do it with LOVE as the main motive, not to show off, not because we are obliged to, but because WE love. In the end of our life, St John of the Cross says, “we will be judged in LOVE.”

SO today let us ponder on these things:

1. What are the gifts and talents that God gave me?

2. Am I using these gifts with love and hope for the growth of the kingdom of God or am  I just using them to my own satisfaction?
