WHY GO TO CHURCH?

If you’re spiritually alive, you’re going to love this!

If you’re spiritually dead, you won’t want to read it.

If you’re spiritually curious, there is still hope!

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. ‘I’ve gone for 30 years now,’ he wrote, ‘and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them.

So, I think I’m wasting my time and the priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.’

This started a real controversy in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column. Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

‘I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals.

But I do know this… They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.

Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be

spiritually dead today!’

When you are DOWN to nothing….God is UP to something!

Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the

impossible!

Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, ‘Jesus, could you get that for me……

34th Tuesday Gospel

Gospel Luke 21:5-11
When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, Jesus said, ‘All these things you are staring at now – the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another: everything will be destroyed.’ And they put to him this question: ‘Master,’ they said ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that this is about to take place?’
‘Take care not to be deceived,’ he said ‘because many will come using my name and saying, “I am he” and, “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened, for this is something that must happen but the end is not so soon.’ Then he said to them, ‘Nation will fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes and plagues and famines here and there; there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.’
Reflection:
Jesus in our gospel today was asked WHEN will be the end, and WHAT are the signs of the end times?
Instead of answering the question, Jesus indicated that it is not a QUESTION of WHEN or WHAT, but it is rather a QUESTION of HOW should we prepare for it. He said two things we would do: First that we would not be deceived by the false messiahs; second that we would not join in the company of the false messiahs. In our time, we already have heard or even had walked with some false messiahs. Jesus warns us again to identify the false messiahs from the only TRUE one. No other but Jesus is the true one. If there is someone who would claim to be the messiah but are refusing to acknowledge our only LORD and Saviour and is spreading a false hope and promises, we’d better stay away from that person.
But how to identify the false from the true?
Well it all goes back to our relationship with Jesus. How real and how true are we in our relationship with Jesus? Is he our friend? Or is he a nuisance in our lives? The more real and true our relationship with him, the more we’ll recognize the false messiah and the false prophecies, from the true one.
